The Real Game Series Increases Interest in Postsecondary and Life-Long Learning (Music playing...) Michael B. Stevens (Principal, Lee Junior High School) ...the school climate has gotten better, our academic performance has gotten better and I think it all relates to us providing a connection for kids to the school Danny Marquez (Director, Crossroads Employment Services) We're seeing, I think, students being more excited about staying in school because of the real good linkage between what The Real Game tries to do in terms of helping career awareness and the importance of education. If you want to become a mechanical engineer, you can't drop out of high school. You won't get there. If you want to become a nutritionist, you have to finish school. Panna Putnam (Middle School Coordinator, Yolo County Office of Education) The way this game and the materials really help, I think, is to help the kids see what real life is going to be 5, 10, 15 years from now when they are, not actually in a school setting, learning, but hopefully, lifelong learners, George Montgomery (Career Counselor, Laguna Creek High School) I believe that students who are gaining a greater insight into who they are as people and their value system and of course their interests and abilities. It helps them to begin to take their work more seriously in school their subject matter becomes more relevant to them. Their life decisions may be academic, post-secondary or technical school. Learning is lifelong. The Real Game Series provides an opportunity for students to make their own choices. Nathaniel Hawthorne (Job Developer, Crossroads Employment Services) I think some of the kids also find that maybe not every kids going to go to a four-year college. They may find that to get what they want they need to go to technical school, or they need to obtain some kind of training or on the job training and these are things that I think they'll get out of the program Taylor Fugit (Student, Middle School) It's totally hands on and it shows you about what, you know, what life's like and how it's not always easy to get a job and how you have to write a resume, go to college and, you know, just try your best and I think everyone should learn that Jan Hill (Job Developer, Crossroads Employment Services) Attendance is almost perfect during The Real Game. I find that attendance goes up when we are playing The Real Game. If a child is absent, I actually get a phone message on my voice mail service that says, "What did I miss? Please have it ready for my parents to pick up in the front office" They don't want to miss.
